Former Bengals receiver Chris Henry is not yet a free agent. Instead, because he does not have four years of NFL service, he must pass through waivers before hitting the open market.
So the question becomes whether another team will be willing to make a waiver claim for him. It requires no signing bonus or other up front investment. It wouldn’t shock us if a team that needs a receiver takes a flier on Henry, whose talent is undeniable.
One potential candidate could be the Oakland Raiders, who recently added Javon Walker via free agency. In Henry’s case, the Raiders can secure his services without having to grossly overpay him.
Of course, Henry still might be suspended by the NFL. Or he could be unavailable to play because he’s, you know, behind bars.
And there’s no guarantee that Henry has changed his behavior. Said one league source in response to the news of Henry’s most recent arrest, “I hope he can pull himself together before he kills himself or someone else.”

Not so fast. Henry is in real trouble due to probation restrictions in Florida and Kentucky. If he pleas out, in any distinction, the Kenton County prosecutor will have a capias out for Henry without delay. I believe the same is true for Florida in light of yet another probation violation.

Even though the Raiders could get Henry withour grossly overpaying this year, I think they would still consider giving him something like $60 million over 5 years. It seems to be their preferred way of operating this offseason. Does anyone else get the sense that Al Davis thinks the Bush tax cuts coming in May are going to be for a lot more money than they really will be?

Let’s get him on the skins. We need a big receiver, and despite the fact that he’s retarded and potential jail bait, if we could get him on the field he could be a big help.

On the field with TJ and Chad….Henry is a dynamic 3rd wide receiver.
Off the field….he just CAN NOT stay out of T-R-O-U-B-L-E.

Yet another thuglete who needs to receive his NFL pink slip. Bye-bye! And, he’s either under-the-influence in his mug shot, or is packing a double digit IQ behind those eyes. Either way, he should be gone.

No guarantee that he’s changed his behavior since when? Yesterday?

Ummm… I’ll deny it. His career best for a season is 36 catches. And I doubt he’s ever been doubled.
