Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid says he has not heard from a single team showing interest in trading for quarterback Donovan McNabb.
And although Reid hasn’t completely ruled out trading McNabb, he doesn’t sound like he expects it to happen. Peter King of SI.com reports that when Reid was asked whether he would trade McNabb if he “got a ridiculous offer,” Reid answered, “No,” and then paused and said, “Probably not.”
Reid did say “probably” instead of “definitely,” so this is not the last time we’ll hear speculation that the Eagles will trade McNabb. But they appear set to go into another season with McNabb as the starter.
As for the No. 2 spot, which belonged to A.J. Feeley last year, Reid said of 2007 second-round pick Kevin Kolb, “he’ll compete for that spot this year in training camp.”
Reid also said he disagreed with some players, including McNabb, who have said the Eagles need to acquire more playmakers.
“I think we’ve got pretty good playmakers where we’re at,” Reid said.

Maybe things are finally going to change in Philly. Getting rid of mediocre Mcscabb would be a good start, followed by dumping the too conservative Reid.

I am suprised Childress isnt sneaking around looking to make a mcnabb deal. Childress has a boner for all ex-philly players and always tries to bring them in 2 the vikes. I’m sure he has some interest in mcnabb

There is no way signing Samuel was the harbinger of rebuilding, One More shot with 5. Its the smart thing to do. Once 5 got his legs back and forced teams out of man coverage, he was back to his old self.

C’mon Andy! You’re giving these dudes too much credit. It’s been proven that they can’t get it done. I’m talking the WR core that exists now. Maybe if you trade for physical WR who gets open and can catch the damn ball, move Curtis to the slot and let Avant play the other WR, we have a chance. The way isht is right now. 9-7 is the record.

Obviously he thinks the “playmakers” they have are pretty good. He signed / picked them. Unfortunately, his ability to judge the talent of said playmakers is significantly inferior to his ability to assess the talents of linemen (Winston Justice excluded). The question we should be asking him is if anyone else in the front office thinks we need more “playmakers” and if so, who do they think we should get.
Reid’s legacy will be the same as Coach Chin’s…minus the Championship.
Why couldn’t I have been born in another city?

The only time McNabb has EVER had a decent WR was when T.O. was there and they went to the Super Bowl … O.K., he puked all over himself, but still they went to the big game.
If Reid would ever give him a couple of quality wideouts, you just never know what might happen.

Hank Baskett could become a Plaxico Burress. He’s got the height of Burress, which we need in a WR, and when he got to play a little bit on ‘06, he made some real nice catches. I’m not sure what’s seen in Avant, but I think if given an opportunity, Baskett could be the guy everyone is talking about getting.

After every dropped pass this season, Eagles fans will collectively think, “Would Moss/Fitz/Chad/Roy have dropped that?”
…and then hang their head in shame with a deep sigh.

Lest we forget that the Eagles won the two playoff games to get to the Superbowl sans Mr. Owens.
For better or worse, there are certain positions the Eagles Front Office values over others (OT, OG, DE, DT, CB, QB among them). Their philosophy has brought more continued success to the franchise than it had ever had.
They are not against getting good wide receivers - Kevin Curtis wasn’t cheap - but they think that it is not worth overpaying for the position. I, for one, agree with their philosophy for the most part. What is the use having superior receivers when you can’t block well enough to have time to get them the ball?

Even if McNabb doesn’t get traded, he won’t make it past week 6. Injury and/or poor play will force Kevin Kolb in the game, which I’m excited to see. I saw Kolb torch Oklahoma State and watched him as best I could for the rest of the year - the kid is fantastic! Shame he went to Philly (’Boys fan here), but I still can’t wait to watch him light up the scoreboard. He throws one of the prettiest deep balls I’ve ever seen, and he does it often and accurately. If you haven’t seen him play yet, you’re missing out and should be praying McNabb says or does something awful…

I like how Reid says it’s the Eagles fans that are obsessed with the Wide Receiver position.
Yeah, right, we’re the ones that tried to sign Randy Moss, and trade for Larry Fitzgerald, and had the boner for bad wide receivers like Freddie Mitchell, James Thrash, Todd Pinkston, Na Brown, and Wilbur McMullen.
You can always tell when Andy is trying to get on McNabb’s good side, because Andy takes a shot at the fans. I guess that really means he can’t get a deal done for a true #1 wide receiver.

Why do reporters/pft/fans keep talking about getting rid of McNabb? What are they gonna replace him with? Unproven Kolb? Or AJ “Interception” Feely? Until a better option is available, I think this is a dead issue. Maybe if he gets injured or has sub par year this can be brought up again. I think the focus should be more on the play makers on offense. If the eagles had a true #1 to go with Reggie Brown (a great procession receiver) and the Welker clone Kevin Kurtis, i think McNabb would have pro bowl numbers to go along with the STILL under rated Westbrook. They are 1 or 2 pieces away from contending with any team in the NFC.

BS!!! typical Andy Reid Jargon. Let me guess - “we need to put the playmakers we have in better position to make plays.”
This team could be involved in super bowl talk if they would just add one more weapon at WR. I like curtis and brown, but I would love to see them against no. 2 and 3 corners, not 1 and 2.
And if we get rid of mcnabb, we’ll stay in the basement for the next few years.
AR - go get ocho cinco or roy williams and RUN THE GOD DAMN FOOTBALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Eagles actually made it to the SB without TO. They made it with Mitchell and Pinkston. They went because of their defense. Problem wasn’t getting to the championship game, because they did that plenty of times before without TO. They played the championship game without TO. They lost the SB with TO.

Agreed. He needs a stud WR.
Anyone remember Jeff Garcia’s pro bowl years in SF? Or Donovan’s best years in Philly? Romo’s breakout in Dallas? Whats the common denominator? Love him or hate him, but stud WRs like TO make QBs look good… and often, better than they really are.

And I thought the Panthers were blind to non-talent with Kerry Colbert.
(Everyone in Charlotte laughed when we read Shannonhan compaired Colbert to Smith and Colston [i maybe getting Bronco’s names wrong here] of the Elway Superbowl team.)
But I agree with Eagles fans here, and I have sympathy for you right now.
But, McPuke (as we like to call him) is still one of the top 15 QBs in the NFL. And if you don’t have one that’s in the top 15, it’s hard to find one.

This is Reid’s hand picked team, what do you expect him to say that he sucks at evaluating talent and the WR’s suck too? He doesn’t need to say it, all you have to do is watch the team play to see it.
