The Houston Texans, who reportedly were willing to part with backup quarterback Sage Rosenfels in exchange for a second-round draft pick, are now saying that Sage won’t be leaving.
And so the Vikings moving on to plan B (or maybe it’s plan H or I). Per the Minneapolis Star Tribune, the Vikings are close to signing Gus Frerotte to back up starter Tarvaris Jackson.
Frerotte spent a couple of years with the Vikings (then again, he’s spent time with plenty of teams). He was cut earlier this year.
Last month, Frerotte visited the Vikings and the Packers.

I wouldn’t have been against the Falcons picking this guy up…I’ve always been a Gus fan, and lets face it … he had some good games in Minny…not too long ago

I hope the Vikes do go with Gus as a veteran backup. He would be a big upgrade over Bollinger. I would then pick a QB prospect in Round 2 or 3. I would not give up a second rounder for Sage based on a decent 4/5 game stretch at the end of last year. His stats in those games are no better than what TJ did in his final 7 starts. Sage is a decent backup for our second third round pick…other than that move with Ferrotte and the draft!
Lastly, there will be some veteran QB cuts laster this year…Chad, maybe?

As a Pack fan, I hope he doesn’t go to MN….he’ll be starting by mid-season and I think he can get the job done there.
I was hoping Green Bay would lock him up because the odds of A-Rodge going uninjured through 16 games next season isn’t very likely.

First day draft picks are extremely valuable in NFL currency, and not to be dispensed for the likes of Sage Rosenfels, a highly UNsought after free agent 12 months ago who had, granted, a good run. Even the 3rd round pick would be steep for the Vikes, considering the plan was for a back-up to T-Jack, not for competition to start. [Remember what Houston gave up for Schaub, a guy they were handing the starting job to?]

Stop all this public posturing and let’s get serious about ‘Doing over the Moon deal’
If Texan don’t want to trade Rosenfels then why does everybody know the asking price is a 2nd? Quinn Gray gave up his backup job in Jacksonville to be #3 in Houston because he needed a change of scenery. Ridiculous.
In ‘94 Oiler sent Warren Moon to Vike for 4th rounder and conditional 3rd rounder the next year. Vike hold the #17 pick ahead of Kubiak and Texan could ask for a swap. If these two don’t get moving on this deal Jerry Jones just may decide this would be the place to move to to get Rashard Mendenhall
For Vike to raise their offer of a 3rd by adding a conditional 4th rounder in 2009 would be mean a ‘Moon over Houston II’. Forget Frerotte

correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t this the same guy who when he was with the Washington Redskins ran for a TD and then proceeded to headbutt the padded section of stands and messed up his neck…if so he’ll fit right in with the purple pansies.
GO PACK GO!
