The first game of the post-Favre era will be televised nationally on ESPN in prime time.
According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, the Green Bay Packers will host the Minnesota Vikings at 7:00 p.m. EDT on Monday, September 8.
A second game, undoubtedly featuring a West Coast team as the home team, will kick off after 10:00 p.m. EDT that same night.
The league is expected to announce the full Week One slate of nationally-televised games and the Thanksgiving Day (and night) contests on Monday.

So basically what you’re saying is that ESPN will continue to get the shaft on decent games this year. Packers-Vikes as an opener? Without Favre? The battle of Aaron Rogers vs Travares Tillman? And I STILL have to listen to Mike Tirico? Pass.

Great news for Vikings fans. We get the Green Bay game out of the way while the weather is nice, and can take advantage of the fact that all of the pressure will be on Green Bay and Aaron Rogers to perform without Fav-re.

Vikings at Packers to open MNF? Rivalry game.
Redskins at Giants to open season on Thursday night? Rivalry game.
Now just add another rivalry game (Denver at Oakland?) for the 10pm MNF game, and add a rivalry game for the Football Night in America game, and week 1 will be even more awesome than usual.

If you follow the link the the article, look at the bottom where they mention “This will be the sixth time the Vikings have opened against the Packers.” If you look at the five games that they list there, you’ll see the words “at Green Bay” Five times. This will be six. Something’s fishy there.
Someone just pointed out to me that the Vikes would probably rather play at Lambeau in September than December, though. Good point.

Hey alansaysyo. Umm, hate to break it to you, but Travares Tillman is a safety who played for Miami last season. I hope you meant Tarvaris Jackson…

Wonder if they retire Favre’s number at this game? Packers have said they will retire it this year. And I’m sure they want to do it on a nationally televised game.

It had to happen sometime. The Packers are still a draw even without Favre at QB. I think Rodgers will turn out to be fine. I’ve watched him practice the last few years and reminds me of Tony Romo and the type of game he plays (without Jessica). The strength of the team will be the defense anyhow and maybe the running game. They won’t ask him to do much.

Hopefully this will be one of at least 4 prime time games for the Vikings. This game will be the passing of the guard for the NFC North title for sure.
Thanks to Peterson and an up and coming QB ( Jackson) the Vikes are on their way to the playoffs!

Is that some sort of reference to him transitioning to the CFL where he belongs?

So we get to see Rogers suck it up and Adrian Peterson run for 200 yards to start the season? That is only if AR can make it to the first week healthy…

Yes, TJack will be transitioning to the CFL and AP…AD…whatever…will be transitioning to the IR. Vikings fans, get it through your skulls…Brett Favre retiring doesn’t mean you automatically win the division. Brad Childress retiring does. John Kitna beats your sorry ass team, certainly Aaron Rodgers can.

Jackosontheviking,
Do you mean changing of the guard, or passing the torch?
I ask because u combined them and really both sayings usually lean more towards a someone taking over the same position in a friendly or at least not hostile manner. Vikings aren’t getting the crown without a fight… besides A.P. is scared of #31

Hrmph…I’m sure you guys living next to our 51st state (Canada) will enjoy this, but who else cares about the Pack without #4 and AP without a QB? Hopefully there will be a good band at the bar that night.
At least Madden won’t be calling it.

Ya the games will be fun, and i think #31 will get to keep his locks, nobody is gonna pass a rule to piss off the players, not when every team in the league, or most anyways, has at least one good player with long al harris type hair… wait is al harris #31?
pack beats vikes… handily
