A league source tells us that New York Giants guard Chris Snee, the son-in-law of coach Tom Coughlin, was not present for “voluntary” offseason workouts that opened on Monday. We’re also told that Snee currently plans to miss three or four weeks of the program, apparently due to his desire to get a new contract. His rookie deal expires after the 2008 season.
The team, however, would not identify who is and who isn’t present. Instead, the team only would say that a “sizable” number of players participated.
Um, with an 80-man roster, we’d sure hope that a “sizable” number of sizable bodies would be there.
Meanwhile, Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News, who makes a vague reference to our Sunday report of Snee’s potential absence in “The Blue Screen” (which is kind of like “The Green Mile,” only it’s not green . . . and it’s not a mile), was unable to get an answer to the question during the half hour he spent in the players’ parking lot, before being politely asked to get the hell out.
