The Arizona Cardinals have announced the addition of two new players, whom the team can now afford given that receiver Larry Fitzgerald’s cap-busting contract has been renegotiated.

Specifically, the Cardinals have signed quarterback Brian St. Pierre, and have re-signed safety Matt Ware.

St. Pierre has spent most of his time in the NFL with the Steelers, but also had a short stint with the Ravens.  He is familiar with coach Ken Whisenhunt’s offense, given that Whisenhunt was the coordinator in Pittsburgh.

St. Pierre’s deal is a one-year arrangement.  He becomes the third quarterback on the roster, behind Matt Leinart and Kurt Warner.  Tim Hasselbeck was the third-stringer in 2007, but he is an unrestricted free agent and has not been re-signed.

St. Pierre’s arrival could prompt speculation that the team might be willing to trade Warner.

Ware appeared in 15 games for the Cardinals in 2007.  He signed a two-year deal.
