A Seahawks fan in Port Orchard, Washington has been accused of spitting on the hamburger of a Steelers fan.
We’re not positive as to the proper spelling of this, but we think it’s: “Bwahahahahaha.”
The customer in question was wearing his Steelers gear, and he had gotten into an argument with an employee at the unnamed fast-food joint about Super Bowl XL. So when the Steelers fan got his burger, he concluded that someone had spit on it.
Or, alternatively, that it had gotten a lecture in close quarters from former Steelers coach Bill Cowher. (Hat tip to the reader who made the Cowher comparison when sending us the link.)
Look, we don’t condone the defacement of foodstuffs. But the “victim” violated the First Commandment of eating at a place where a stranger will be preparing and/or handling your food: “Thou shalt not be an asshole.”
The Steelers fan was asking for it, and he got it. Strike one was wearing Steelers gear to a restaurant in Seahawks country. Strike two was getting into an argument with one of the employees at the restaurant. And strike three for all Steelers fans who might wear Steelers gear to restaurants in places other than Pittsburgh was the guy making a big deal about it, because now the folks who work at other fast-food restaurants will be looking to spit on the food of other guys wearing their black and gold.
If, you know, they weren’t already doing so.

Typical Steeler fan, still holding onto that 3 year old Super Bowl victory as if it were yesterday. What a douche.

How do you surmise from that article the customer was being “an asshole”? They “traded remarks”. And you can’t know who made the first remark. However, your spin on the events recounted in the article did somewhat prop up your own lame attempt at justifying the unquestionably disgusting actions of the restaurant employee.

“Look, we don’t condone the defacement of foodstuffs. But…, The Steelers fan was asking for it…”
I can’t believe what I’m reading here! No one, no matter what they say, wear or do, deserves to be exposed to someone’s bodily fluids in this manner. The moron who did this will pay a price for it, and deservedly so.

I think what sent the fast food guy over the edge was that the Steeler fan asked for a liter of Cola.

So it is the customers fault if an employee of an establishment spits on a paying customers food. That is something that should NEVER HAPPEN!! Regardless of what jersey one is wearing. Secondly, your quote: “the steeler fan was asking for it.” On what do you base this assesment? From the story I was reading the 24 year old “pot head” started trash talking when he saw the fan (and his two daughters) wearing the Steeler jersey. The man was simply ordering food for him and his daughters and was being ‘verbally assaulted’ by an employee of a restaurant. And it is his fault! Not very sound logic!! I know your from WVA, but you must be a dog barking Cleveland Fan with your unsound logic!!

After watching that Super Bowl, shouldn’t Seahawk fans be allowed to spit in the food? They were robbed…

Dear Mike,
I’ve been reading the postings in your great website for over 2 years and I told a few of my friends about it, too. They all read it, too. Although, I’ve always loved your commentary, I’ve to say I’m very disappointed with this particular entry. You can’t escape reproach just by adding a proviso that you don’t condone that behavior. Believe it or not, I’m a Seahawks fan, although I was born and raised in Italy, and I would never dream of spitting on somebody else’s food. I guess I come from a country where that behavior is not only a crime but it’s also considered extremely despicable. I’m really sorry that on this issue our views are so opposite.
Nothing personal against you, because I truly believe you do a great job, but had it been me I would have strongly condemned that behavior. I guess instead in this country, spitting on somebody else’s food, is something that should be expected. Sad, very sad.
Oh well… keep up the good work you usually do, we’re all accustomed to it.
Thank you,
GC

well, as a portlander who has seen a couple of Redskin games in Seattle. i would have to admit that the Seahawk fans are not the sweetest people in the world…downright filth if you ask me. i would expect them to spit in someones food then beat their wife in the trailer park that night.
a typical Seahawks fan isn’t from Seattle and has minimal intelligence, so i could imagine they would have plenty of opportunity to spit in the food of someone ordering lunch…especially since working “the cash machine with all the buttons” is way too much to ask for.
Seahawks fans could use some lessons in class and respect.

“The Steelers fan was asking for it, and he got it.”
I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that a lawyer is blaming a victim.
Was the Steelers fan an idiot for starting stuff with Seahawk fans? Absolutely. But to laugh and say that he deserved spit in his food? Asinine.
Do you really hate the Steelers that much?

Many fans of certain teams (Steelers, Cowboys, Packers) feel like they are the home team even when they’re playing 1,000 miles away from their home stadium. This arrogance doesn’t justify “the special sauce” added to the hamburger, but it comes pretty close.

I can’t believe I am reading this from you Florio. Nobody is ever justified in spitting in someone’s food. It’s a cowardly act plain and simple. I don’t care if the Steelers guy was a total idiot. It’s never justified. It’s a football game for cryin out loud.
What if the scum bag food worker had hepititis? Is it still ok? Afterall that Steeler idiot deserved it, right?

Before Seahawk fans get mad at me, lets just remember that Pittsburgh got totally screwed (and still won) against Indianapolis in the divisional round on that ONE call late in the 4th quarter.
With that being said, it’s not Seattle’s fault the refs tried screwing the Steelers against the Colts.
I believe the Stealer (no spelling error) fans should NEVER rub Super Bowl XL into the faces of the Seahawk fans. They have no right. I have been watching football for four decades and I have never seen a game that was fixed like that. I’m not saying it was fixed, it just appeared that way. Sometimes crazy things just happen at bad times and unfortunately for Seattle — things didn’t even out in that game.
Steeler fans — if you want to heckle someone, make fun of the Vikings. You kicked their butt. You can even make fun of the Cowboys b/c you have 2 and they only have 1. You can really rub it into the Rams, but the difference is you deserved those games. You did not deserve Super Bowl XL.
