Broncos receiver Brandon Marshall says he’s going to change. Okay, fine. But saying it ain’t doing it, and until he’s doing it we ain’t buying it.
Marshall talked at length on Thursday about his off-field issues, which have resulted in multiple arrests and most recently a serious arm injury that will cause him to miss up to four months.
Though even if he misses a full four months he won’t miss any of training camp, missing the entire offseason program is a far bigger deal than it was a decade ago. Most of the offense and defense is installed during the non-contact (eye roll) teaching sessions from April through June, and Marshall will be behind the curve if he’s standing on the sidelines while his teammates are learning the plays that will be used in the 2008 season.
“Being truthful, it is time for me to grow up on and off the field,” Marshall said. “I’m not just a guy that’s on the team, I’m a starter and have a lot of responsibility on this team. We have goals that we’re trying to reach, and I play a big role in that.”
Marshall also talked about the incident that caused his injury. He initially claimed that he slipped on a McDonald’s bag and crashed into a television entertainment center. He now says that he was wrestling with his brother and fell into the entertainment center while trying to avoid said McDonald’s bag.
“It was just ‘horseplaying,’ what brothers do,” Marshall said. “We’re adults, I just turned 24 Sunday. He’s 25. He’s my brother. I love him to death. We were just playing around like usual. We always play around. Maybe it will be in my next contract not to horseplay. He lives with me in Denver. He will continue to put deodorant to my under arm until my arm gets better.”
(Hey, at least he didn’t talk about who’s doing his wiping. We’re not sure we could stomach that image. Yeah, it’s really good he didn’t mention it.)
Marshall also expressed regret for a couple of past arrests, including a DUI that is still pending.
“There’s been things that I’ve been involved with as far as DUI. Stupid. It’s stupid. But it’s one of those things that I have take that and better myself. Learn from it. It’s stupid. I shouldn’t have been driving. I could have hurt someone that night. I could have hurt myself. I have to be accountable for my actions.”
Speaking of stupid, there went his chances of an acquittal.
So, yeah, this guy has a lot of growing up to do. It’s good that he recognizes it. Moving forward, he only has to prove that the flesh is as strong as the spirit.

Something about that sounded genuine.
You can’t crucify the guy who is 24 for horse playing with his brother. Stuff happens. Freak accident. Eating McDonald’s is the scary and irresponsible part. He will learn from that.
As for the DUI thing, well it wasn’t smart to admit guilt but hey he did it and he said it and that sounds like something he learned from. What he does now is what matters. His statement was refreshing.

If I was wrestling and hurt myself.. I don’t think I’d reflect on my entire life, and include something like a DUI in the same sentence. It’s obvious that he didn’t slip on a McDonalds bag, wasn’t wrestling with his brother but did something far more negligent and this is the guilt he’s expressing along with thankfulness that the whole story didn’t come out.

Mike Shanahan will tolerate anyone he thinks can help him save his job. Denver needs to get over this belief that they can rehabilitate all these morons. Maybe the time spent bailing players out of jail and spinning p.r. to clean up th eimage of the franchise would be better spent actually coaching players, screening players, teaching them how to clean up so they don’t slip on MacDonald’s wrappers……..

What has he learned? Most people who get busted just learn to be a little smarter to not get busted next time.
Making a big pronouncement about changing is usually the first sign that nothing has changed.

Marshall vows to change…..to Burger King’s non-slip bags? BTW, who else here wants to see a picture of the destroyed TV to prove the story?

Whenever I wrestle with other full grown men, I feel the need to reassure them and America that I still love them.

Who care if nobody is buying his excuse. I am tired of everybody having conspiracy theories about what happend. Dude, Let it go.
I hope he does grow up. The Broncos call him baby T.O. I dont him to be anything like Owens, except for receptions, yards and tds

It’s funny reading people’s comments here. I guess everyone on here lived a 100% honest life, never drank, never did drugs, and never was involved in an accident.
This kid got a DUI. He admits it was a stupid thing to do and was a big mistake.
He got charged with False Imprisonment because he was trying to get his cell phone back from his girlfriend. The charges were ultimately DROPPED. I guess no one here has ever got into an argument with a girlfriend??!?!?
As for the accident with his brother. Give the guy a break. If you have siblings you should know. My brother and I used to always wrestle and have had some major injuries. I don’t think either of us are bad people all of a sudden!
This guy was with his family on vacation. It’s not like he was in a strip club making it rain.
Get over yourselves, with the better than thou attitudes.
