The Seattle Seahawks have engaged in another transaction . . . and it’s still not the release of 2005 NFL MVP Shaun Alexander.
This time, the ‘Hawks have inked cornerback Marcus Trufant to a long-term deal.
Per a league source, Trufant agreed early Wednesday to a six-year contract worth $50.2 million. The deal includes $20 million in guaranteed money, and will pay $28 million over the first three years and $34 million over the first four.
The deal also includes a $3 million 2010 roster bonus that is guaranteed for skill and injury, which as a practical matter makes the first three years — and the $28 million that comes with it — guaranteed.
Trufant had been given the franchise tag in February. Of the 12 franchise players in 2008, Trufant is the second to sign a long-term deal with his original team. The first was Colts tight end Dallas Clark.

It’s worth mentioning that Washington state has no state income tax. With this kind of money, that might be important to consider in terms of comparing Trufant’s contract with those of Clements/Samuel/Hall etc.

Seahawks fans should be very happy they got a deal done with this guy, there are a lot of people who would have loved to get Trufant in their defensive backfield(including me!)
