The Washington Redskins have changed.

Whether it was intentional or coincidental, it has happened.  Gone are the big-money free-agency splurges.  Instead, the team is actually trying (successfully) to keep its current players.

This year alone, the ‘Skins have re-signed quarterback Todd Collins and running back Rock Cartwright (Cartwright!).

They’ve now re-signed tackle Jason Fabini.

The retention of Fabini is significant, given that many league observers (including us) assumed that Fabini would make a beeline to Miami, where he would be reunited (again) with Bill Parcells.  But the Fins apparently weren’t interested, and so he’s staying in D.C.

Fabini gets a one-year deal worth a total of $870,000 to him but costing only $485,000 to the Redskins in real dollars and cap dollars, thanks to the procedure for encouraging teams to choose veterans over younger guys who come much cheaper.
