Suspended Tennessee Titans cornerback Pacman Jones is spending today in Dallas talking to former Cowboys wide receiver Michael Irvin on Irvin’s radio show, and he’s doing his best to convince all who are listening that he understands the need to make changes in his life.
“It’s getting to the point where it ain’t no time for slip-ups right now,” Jones told Irvin, per Tim MacMahon of the Dallas Morning News. “It’s like I’m on the cliff right now. One slip-up and it’s off the cliff.”
MacMahon reports that Jones is making no excuses and pointing the finger only at himself for his suspension and repeated off-field problems.
Jones’ lawyer, Manny Arora, wouldn’t allow any reporters to talk to Jones before the interview with Irvin. The interview is being streamed live on the station’s web site.

It wasnt Pacman who made the distinction between gentleman and strip clubs, it was Irvin and his producer RJ Choppy. The Pacman interview had not officially started at that point.
The post by Tim McMahon is a bit ambiguous in that regard.

I’m a life-long, die-hard Cowboys fan and though I see the benefit of adding a player of his skill to our corps of db’s, I think it sends the wrong message to kids. Even MY kid! yeah, I know, it’s a business, but as a parent, it’s also a bit disenchanting. After schooling my child on the history of the franchise and getting him familiar with the various heroes, champions, and winners… well, as of late, Jerry Jones has been letting me down with a few of his acquisitions. And, yes, there is a difference between TO and Adam Jones: TO didn’t break any laws. Tank and Adam… I just pray this isn’t turning into a trend or my son and I may have to shop for another team. God forbid.

Pacman, when you got drafted there was no time for slip-ups (or wasn’t no time apparently). You should count your blessings IF you get a second chance, but I get the feeling you will screw it up again. Thanks for letting us know what the difference is between a strip club and gentleman’s club by the way. I can sleep at night now that I know.

I wonder how many “gentlemen’s establishments” allow you to “make it rain” on there strippers. As much as I would love to see him in a redskins uniform, I think he is still going to make a mistake or two down the road. It may not be anything big, but I see a DUI or something in his future.

Instead of always highlighting when athletes such as Emmit Smith and Pac-Man Jones display their poor grammar, why not address the education system and/or college football for not preparing these young men to speak properly, yet allowing them to advance through school. If your beef is really with how ignorant they sound then I think you have a great opportunity and platform at PFT to address the real problem and not just poke fun and mock they way these men formulate sentences.
P.S. - Some of the Emmit stuff is funny/classic.

I did not hear the beginning of the broadcast. Anyone please confrim but other blogs are calling out the PFT reference attributing Jones with defining the differences between ’strip clubs’ and ‘gentlemen’s establishments’. Who actully defined the difference. Thanks.

Rosenhouse just became his agent, so why should this be a shock. He makes every Wide Reciever want to leave their team.
Kassim is a great player, but he’s obviously not a threat as a reciever. He’s been there with Brees under center and phillip Rivers, so it’s not the QB. He’s gotten the same ammount of PT with 2 diffrerent coaches as well, so it looks like he’s just not good enough to run routes. I respect him wanting to cash in on those pro bowl appearances, but it looks the Chargers are not the ones to blame here.

Really, the greatest surprise to me is that Pacman hasn’t gotten himself killed yet with the sorts of stuff he pulls. A DUI is definitely in the picture for him.
And as an Eagles fan, I actually hope he does make it onto the Cowboys just because it will give me more reason to dislike them.

Does anyone else see the irony that Michael Irvin is the voice of reason here? When he played in Big D, he was hanging out with Luke Skywalker from the 2 Live Crew and doing bumps off stripper’s no-no spot all day long. Now HE’S a mentor?!?! Get serious. Cris Carter truly turned his life around. Michael Irvin is still a thug at heart.

A previous poster made a comment about some athletes grammatical deficiencies. I agree that the educational system is at fault to a point for passing along these dolts. On the other hand, I fault the student for not making the most of the opportunities presented. Most NFL players were given full scholarships in college. Is it the institution or teacher’s fault that they didn’t apply themselves or do the work? Granted; the Athletic Director, coaches, and the administration may have smoothed the way. But to assert that poor Pacman and others of his ilk never a fair shot at a proper education is BS. For every Pacman, there is a Robert Smith, former RB with the Vikings. Look him up. Smart guy and communicates with intelligence and insight.
I can just see poor Pacman, wandering the campus alone at night, looking for a teacher to lead the way and inspire him and finding none willing. *sniff*

I agree with you Norseman that it is the responsibility of the student athlete to learn their course material, however, my issue is with the way that PFT pounces on every opportunity to make fun of when these athletes showcase their ignorance.
It is this kind of special treatment (passing grades without being accountable for actually learning) that fuels people like Pacman’s behavior. They feel privileged, above the law, and above authority period.
While those of us who did pay attention in English 101 find it funny to hear someone begin a sentence with “Ain’t no….” or “I’m finna go…..”, the truth of the matter is that it is very sad. Had these institutions, AD’s, coaches, etc. held some of the NFL’s knuckleheads accountable then, they may have not even been eligible to play thus eliminating them from causing havoc (off the field) in the league.

mrowens11, what you say is true. It’s easy to poke fun at these fools. Perhaps some do it out of a sense of mild jealousy and frustration because they don’t have the physical gifts and opportunities that these clowns squander. They see them having everything handed to them and never being fully accountable, like the rest of us, and throwing it all away. We like to think we’d be more responsible and appreciative and make the most of such golden opportunities. But would we? Hmmm.
