I don't know why Coles would be satisfied with a promise of a new deal. Isn't that what this whole things about, that the team made promises to him and they were never kept. Plus look at the Pete Kendell situation, he was supposed to get a new deal(according to Kendell) and look how that situation played out. IMO the Jets need to be a little more straight forward about contracts.

Maybe Coles is suffering from post-concussion syndrome and forgot that he'd decided not to report for the offseason conditioning program. Whatever his rationale, if he's taking Mangini and Tannenbaum at their word, he should rethink his options.

As for Dewayne Robertson, the man Herm Edwards once termed "a bowling ball with knives," perhaps the Jets should try dealing him to the Chiefs.

Yes, he needs money for that 30,000 square foot mall in Jacksonville.

" The Star-Ledger reports that the deal he’ll make with the team won’t necessarily be a new contract this year, but it may be an assurance that he’ll get a new contract next year if he stays healthy, or that the team will let him seek a trade."

Or it might be a phat stack of cash money, under the table.

But isn't part of Coles' issue is that "secret agreements" was in place already and that he was assured a new contract sometime over the last 2 years? Why would he now show up for workouts under the principle that "assurances" have been made for a new contract or trade now?
