Mike Garafolo of the Newark Star-Ledger, acting on the advice of Peter King in his MMQB column, has done some sniffing around regarding the interest of the New Orleans Saints in Giants tight end Jeremy Shockey.
Per Garafolo, the Saints previously offered a second-round pick and safety Roman Harper. The Giants said, “No thanks.”
The real question is whether the Saints will try again. King apparently thinks they will. Based on some of the things we’ve heard on the grapevine, we agree.
As always, stay tuned.

What is Mickey Loomis thinking? Giving up a second rounder that we so desperately need to help out our horrendous defense and the only productive young DB that we have on our team are being tossed to the Giants for a locker room cancer that cant stay healthy…….

The Giants probably would deal Shockey for a box of Cheerios and a crate of strawberries. Before they leap at that offer, though, they’ll wait to see whether somebody offers them something better. As the old adage goes, there’s a sucker born every minute, and many of them have gone on to become front-office personnel for the Saints.

Sean Payton was once the offensive coordinator of a system that had Shockey starting at TE; pehaps he “gets” what the guy from THE U is all about.
Conversely, New Olreans still needs more business post Katrina. Judging by Shockey’s booze intake at the Super Bowl, he’d be able to increase Bourbon Street revenues by 3% - 5%.
