In response to our blurb regarding a report in the Newark Star-Ledger that the New Orleans Saints offered a second-round pick and safety Roman Harper for Giants tight end Jeremy Shockey, a source with knowledge of the discussions tells us that the Giants wanted a two and Harper, and that the Saints refused.
We don’t know what if anything the Saints offered for Shockey. But the fact that the Giants articulated a trade request for Shockey tells us that they’re willing to move on without him.
And for good reason. He has been a disruptive influence in the organization, and we think it’s no coincidence that quarterback Eli Manning came of age once Shockey was done for the year with a broken leg.

Shockey is a joke. All he cares about is himself. The Giants became a better team once he was out. I don’t care where he goes as long as it’s not Atlanta.

The Gints wanted a 2 and Harper for this Turd! The Saints played this one right. They should be grateful they get any pick at all and unload him now.

If you think Shockey complained in NY, wait til you hear him after spending his first week at minicamp in a roach infested shanty on the bayou.

shockey for new orleans 2nd and roman harper, i would say if that were to happen, that roger goodell should look into the giants robbing the saints without the use of a gun. Shockey is good but not for no way hes worth a 2nd and harper. I like him as a player but he whines more than my 4 year old.

no way Shockey is worth a 2nd rounder, even without harper.

I think that the injury of Jeremy Shockey and the coming of age for Eli Manning is a coincidence, though I am in the minority here. That correlation is there, but I don’t buy it. There’s no way the presence of Shockey can hurt any quarterback, though he ought to improve his antics — and fast.
Saying that, let’s say that the majority is correct in its assertion, which includes Florio. Given that, isn’t Eli able to be THE man now, no matter what? He can tell Shockey to shut the *beep* up if he wants. I do not find it smart to simply get rid of Shockey, especially when the Giants aren’t even Super Bowl favorites. They weren’t the best, or even in the top five last year. They got hot when it mattered and deserve EVERYTHING they received, but this is a new year. I would advise not getting rid of Shockey.

Having watched Shockey against my team several times, I have to say that he is a good player. The Giants were definitely better without him, but I don’t think any of their current TE’s will give them plays where he gets his helmet knocked off and still tries to plow through 2 or 3 defenders. He’s a good player who’s just a douchebag.
I’m actually torn on this though. Do I want him out of my division? Or do I want him holding Eli Manning back and being a constant cancer for his team? I’m just not sure.
