Though Darren Urban of the Arizona Cardinals’ official web site explained that the ten-day delay in the finalization of receiver Larry Fitzgerald’s contract related to the handling of the contract if 2010 ends up being an uncapped year.
But Howard Balzer of the Sports Xchange reports that the issue arose from a clause that would have fixed Fitzgerald’s franchise tender at $23 million in 2012.
The NFL’s Management Council had concerns about whether a clause setting the franchise tender as something more than what the CBA contemplates is permissible. It’s not known how the matter was finally resolved.

yeah, but if you are never going to make the playoffs - you might as well be the highest paid player in the league at your position.

The Cardinals are dolts. They signed him to a contract with incentives that he achieved. Money hungry? Sure, but if you were going to get around $31 million over two years because you were one of the best WR’s in the game would you think, “Hey I don’t really deserve this money.” No, he earned it by being great, shame on the Cardinals for being a dysfunctional organization.

I like Fitz, he is a good player but I wouldn’t pay him or ANY receiver 10 million a year. The only WR worth that money “WAS” Randy Moss from 1998-2003, in that time he could win a game on his own. All the good teams in recent years follow a blueprint of strong line play, especially defensive. You can’t complete a pass if the QB is running for his life. If I don’t have Peyton or Brady on my team, then I’m gonna try like hell to load up on run stuffers and edge rushers to make a playoff run. Not spend 10 mil on a top-10 wideout.
