Though Darren Urban of the Arizona Cardinals’ official web site explained that the ten-day delay in the finalization of receiver Larry Fitzgerald’s contract related to the handling of the contract if 2010 ends up being an uncapped year.

But Howard Balzer of the Sports Xchange reports that the issue arose from a clause that would have fixed Fitzgerald’s franchise tender at $23 million in 2012.

The NFL’s Management Council had concerns about whether a clause setting the franchise tender as something more than what the CBA contemplates is permissible.  It’s not known how the matter was finally resolved.
