It took a while, but it’s finished.
Per a league source, the Arizona Cardinals have finally wrapped up their new contract with receiver Larry Fitzgerald, more than ten days after it was announced that a deal was done. The extension reportedly is worth $40 million over four years.
The inability of the Cardinals to reduce Fitzgerald’s gigantic cap number has hampered their ability to sign other players. Most recently, the Cards apparently didn’t have the cash to sign linebacker Brandon Chillar, who reportedly wanted to come to Arizona but instead landed in Green Bay.
Recently, Darren Urban of the Cardinals’ official web site explained that the delay was the result of the looming uncapped year in 2010. Though Urban’s item deftly suggests that the team shouldn’t be blamed for the situation (likely in order to avoid embarrassing the entity that signs his checks), it’s shocking to us that any NFL team wouldn’t have had the deal structured when first negotiated to comply with the niceties of the CBA as it relates to the possibility of an uncapped year in 2010.
It’s even more shocking that it took 10 full days to fix the problem, especially at a time when the money was desperately needed to allow the team to do business.
Have we mentioned that this franchise has won only one postseason game since Harry Truman lived in the White House?

That’s why they will never be a great team. The owners don’t get it. Fitz is not worth $40 mill. They should have traded him to the Eagles.

You realize if Fitz had been traded he would have demanded just as big of a contract, if not bigger?
Plus, given his current production (and lack of QB consistency and/or quality teammates) I’d say he’s worth quite a bit.
Catches-Yards-TD:
330-4544-34 Larry Fitzgerald (first 4 years)
311-4141-33 Marvin Harrison (first 4 years)

264-4881-49 Jerry Rice (first 4 years)

Would’ve been great to have Fitz on the Birds. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that Boldin will hold out for a new deal and end up traded to Philly…

What is it with Philly’s obsession with wide receivers? Do Eagles fans really think that Fitz would have came to the Eagles for anything less than he got in Arizona? The Eagles would have had to pay more for him more than likely !
Give it up with the wide receivers. Unfortunately I have to listen to this nonsense all the time now that I live in Philadelphia, its a joke.
Boldin isn’t going anywhere, CJ isn’t going anywhere, Roy Williams isn’t going anywhere, give it up Eagles fans its a waste of time.
Also why does everyone think that Lito Sheppard is such a great bargaining piece when it comes to a trade? He was replaced for a reason its not like other teams don’t know this. He is hurt way too often, he’s going to be pricey to sign (is he worth the money with the injury problems?), and the Eagles don’t need/want him around anymore so teams aren’t going to offer very much for him because the Eagles don’t really have any bargaining power with Lito.

Boldin is the better receiver. And he most definetly is going to want to get a new deal. Cards blew it.

Fitzgerald is a better route runner, a better jumper and has better hands than Boldin. Boldin is good after the catch. Fitzgerald is far better all-around than Boldin.
