We’re having trouble keeping up with the antics of Cincinnati Bengals receiver Chad Johnson, and even more trouble caring. But the situation remains newsworthy, because Johnson is one of the most physically talented receivers in the NFL. And because he seems to be interested in playing for any team the one that currently owns his rights.
Most recently, Ocho Stinko appeared on FSN’s Best Muther-F–kin’ Sports Show, Period (we know it’s not the real title, but oh how we wish it were), and he talked about possibly playing for the Dallas Cowboys.
“If I end up in Dallas, I would just look at which finger I’m gonna put it on,” Johnson said, via Albert Breer of the Dallas Morning News. “That’s it. Ain’t no ifs, ands or buts about it.”
But what about the fact that Terrell Owens is already the top wideout on the team?
“It’s gonna work,” Johnson said. “T.J. [Houshmandzadeh] and Chad Johnson are no different than ‘81′ and ‘85′ because T.J. is a No. 1 receiver. We just happen to be two No. 1 receivers on the same team at the same time. It’s no different.”
Here’s another reason why we think it would work — Drew Rosenhaus represents Owens and Johnson. So if there were a way to get Stinko to Dallas, Rosenhaus would do everything in his power to ensure that there would be no friction between two of the biggest egos in all of pro sports.
Meanwhile, Johnson again addressed the infamous January 2006 halftime locker-room incident, which was resurrected two weeks ago when a video surfaced of former Bengals defensive tackle Shaun Smith saying that Johnson punched coach Marvin Lewis in the eye.
Our initial report on the matter, from the day after the incident, included a mention that Johnson at one point had receivers coach Hue Jackson in a headlock. Johnson now claims that Jackson had him in a headlock.
The common theme from Johnson and Jackson is that Johnson was being restrained. We’ve never known for sure, however, precisely what or whom Johnson was being restrained from.
Anyway, the real issue going forward is what will happen with Johnson. From the moment Johnson launched his campaign to get out of Cincinnati, it’s been made clear to us that the Bengals will not let him have his way.
Assuming, then, that Johnson is too cheap to pay back bonus money and/or to incur the fines that would accrue if he boycotts mandatory minicamps and/or training camp, there likely will be another T.O.-style drama come July and August.
Johnson simply can’t control his emotions. He’ll be half-hearted (not to be confused with “hoof hearted“) and lackadaisical in practice. When pressed to get his butt in gear, he’ll eventually blow his stack. At some point, he’ll be suspended without pay for conduct detrimental to the team. Grievances will be filed. Hearings will be held. It will be a freaking circus.
And we can’t wait to watch it all unfold.

I don’t think he necessarily wants to play for Dallas, I think he would say the same thing just about to any writer who covered a NFL team. I remember him saying earlier how he wanted to play for the Patriots. Eventually he’s going to say he wants to play for Jacksonville, and then who knows maybe Minnesota. Chad is just saying all these things to force his way out of Cincynaughty and get on a playoff team and most importantly get a NEW CONTRACT.

It’s too bad he doesn’t realize he’s no longer the #1 wideout on his own team, let alone the league. I used to think his schtick was amusing, but it’s downright obnoxious now. The Rosenhaus influence is evident.
And if he’s going to be half-hearted, does that mean Chuck Darby ate the other half?

This is going to get ugly. Johnson has done a great job sabotaging his public perception and he’s just getting started.

I sincerely hope that Johnson does not reprise the TO drama from a few seasons ago. For all his antics, Johnson has always been viewed as ‘childlike’ and has gotten a free pass up to this point. However, if he continues down this road, the media and fans will surely turn on him. It won’t affect his ability to switch teams and make hideous amounts of money, Rosenhaus will see to that. But it will forever taint his image and marketability.

With Chad Johnson everything is about him and what he wants. The guy showed his true colors when talking on NFL Total Excess where he constantly referred to himself in the third person, and his eyes were watering up and had the look like he was going to burst out crying at any moment.
I am sure his teammates, and coaches would love to get a ring just as much as he does. You don’t see any of them being as SELFISH and pulling all these antics. Its all about Chad and what he wants and he could care less about anyone but himself.

If the Bengals do get rid of this nimrod, it could be a case of addition by subtraction.
But I’m hoping they hang on to him just so we can watch this car-wreck unfold, if not for anything else. A good consolation prize would be if this turd landed in Dallas, just so we could hope for a car-wreck to unfold between him, Owens, Romo, Jerry Jones and Wade Phillips.

Great point Cheerleader….sounds like a perfect scenario for the next “door flies open” post over at KSK!

You need to change is nickname from Ocho Stinko to Spaulding…
“I WANT a hamburger, no a cheeseburger, I WANT a hotdog. I WANT a milkshake…”
And Marvin Lewis needs to step up with… “You’ll get nothing and like it!”

If he ends up in Dallas, there offense will be even better. This guy has always seemed to have a hidden other side to him that the media never showed for some reason, but he’s very talented, and Jason Garret would be drooling over having him instead of Patrick Creghton as the 2nd or 1-A option in Dallas as it would be with him in the fold.
I do agree though that Chad will say that he wants to go anywhere. He openly campaigned to land in Miami and oakland for God sake. Plus, you have to remember, T.O. is about to wind up his career, so frankly he’ll be irrelevant in a couple of more years. He lost a step as it is, last season if you watched closely.

Chad Johnson is so overrated its unreal. Yes he has good numbers and he has been a probowl caliber player, but he’s not the difference maker he thinks he is. He is 6ft-1, which is decent but not great. He’ doesnt possess great strenth or speed. That’s, I think, the biggest misconception with him. He ran a 4.56 40yrd dash (and probably cant run that fast anyomore), which today is below average. He must posess great quickness and route running ability because his numbers are impressive. However, don’t be too quick to discount the talent of carson palmer. Who’s-your-momma was nothing to notice on the feild, then suddenly he’s one of the best in the league. This is more indicitive of Palmer than anything else. I don’t want to go overboard on thi, I know Johnson is a quality player, but he is overrated. He won’t bring any groundbreaking element to any team. He will most likely improve the team, but he wont be the difference he thinks, particularly in Dallas. They Don’t need him. I read that
“T.O. is about to wind up his career, so frankly he’ll be irrelevant in a couple of more years.”
T.O. is faster (timed between 4.4 and 4.5), stronger, similar in age, and produced better numbers than Johnson did in 2007. How can you say TO is on his way down when he absolutly dominated last year. It as statistically the best year he’s had. 2007 81 rec, for 1355 yards and 15 TDs in 15 games. If TO is on his way down then Chad Johnson is hardly up and coming with 7 less touchdowns. The cowboys have TO under control, there is no reason to put that in jepeardy by bringing in a head case like Johnson.

Chad said the same thing to the Charlotte sports radio crew at the Superbowl. “I will help bring the Panther a Superbowl.”
Given the chance, he will say it about 31 other teams if someone is listening.

Well…here is one way for Jerry Jones to get Wade Phillips to resign. Romo, Owens, Johnson, Jones….it would only be a matter of time until Wade’s head explodes

I hope this happens, it would be like watching a plane full of fireworks crash into a gasoline station. Good god amighty - talk about the perfect storm - you would have a black hole of ego that would suck in anyone who ventured within two miles of the locker room - does the roof on the new stadium retract? There are an awful lot of big heads floating aroun . . .
