The Steelers like the Bengals? No way.

You'll never hear Mike Tomlin blame the police for profiling his players. (or society or whoever else he can come up with this week).

spacemonkey, you gotta get your facts straight.

first of all, wilson was home when his wife went bonkers, she fired a gun at him twice. that's when he left and the police were called.

second of all you said that both of their offenses were quite different in nature, dead wrong. wilson was arrested for beating his gf. holmes was arrested once on being drunk, which you mentioned. what you didn't mention was that he was also arrested for domestic violence and assault on his gf.

as for the rest of your post, i don't know, i kinda quit paying attention when you started bringing up all these random people from other teams and such. but yeah, double standards do exist, between athletes and John Q. Americans, but also on professional sports teams as well. so i think we agree on that, right?

I don't think it is entirely logical to just write this off as a double-standard. You cannot compare Santurdio (being drunk) and Cedric (woman-beater) as their offenses are quite different in nature, as well as how the general public probably views the severity of the different offenses.

As a counterpoint though, the first 'incident' with Cedric happened while he wasn't even there, his (former)girlfriend went wacko in his house after he left. I'm not so sure you can hang responsibility on Cedric for that happening, I can imagine the talk might have been "Ok you embarrassed us once, don't let it happen again or else." If that was the case, then I don't think you can call that a double-standard.

What I would consider questionable is the disparity between Cedric's issues (domestic violence with a psychopath ex-girlfriend) and Michael Vick's issues (well documented on this site), compared to what ended up happening to them. One guy got cut the next day, the other had to basically go to prison and he's still under contract. That I would consider a pretty big variance.

Better yet, how about Ocho Stinko allegedly hitting someone at halftime? No charges were filed, presumably. That is something that freaks me out - anyone remember the repeated stranglings of the Golden State coach by a ballplayer who not only never saw jail time, but went on to earn millions as a pro ballplayer? Do we have stuff like that going on in the NFL, and if so, what is being done about it?

Lets face it, most of us earn less in a year what a lot of these pro athletes make in one week - and if any of us tried to strangle our bosses, TWICE IN THE SAME DAY, I am relatively certain we would have embarked on the E-ticket ride in the back of a black and white. That is what I would call a double-standard.

OK everyone stop drinking their PC Kool-Aid and take off your Rose-Colored glasses. Of course it's a double standard. Is it really that surprising? Someone who is more valuable to the organization is going to get a longer leash. Even in the "real world" workforce, someone who is valuable to their company is going to get cut some slack and offered counseling or something. Someone whom nobody likes or is not as valuable is going to get shown the door.

Why does this shock anyone?

This was Wilson`s second incident, an argument between the couple on Jan. 19 sparked a 12-hour standoff between police and Paulat at Wilson's home in Pine. The Harrison incident was his first.

Flimflam, it's a double standard, dude. you're telling me that after 75 years the steelers finally said "no more domestic abuse!" only after James Harrison beats his gf in March of 2008, come on, i know you're smarter than that.

Santonio Holmes was arrested twice after the Steelers drafted him, you know why he wasn't cut? first round pick. James Harrison will not be cut cause he was team MVP. Cedrick Wilson, you're a 4th WR, at best, Rooneys have to make an example out of someone, sorry Ced, you're out.

It doesn't matter if or when the owners/GMs told the players "one more incident will get you cut", the team will spin the PR fallout to keep the good players and have the mediocre ones cut in order to save face.

You're telling me they'd cut Roethlisberger if he beat his gf a couple of times? didn't think so. it's a double standard, and pittsburgh is not the only one doing it.

oh yeah, and ButchD, you are way off base in saying the steelers' are in contention of being the turd-center of the AFC north. that still is by far the Bungles. Holmes, Harrison, Wilson, Davenport - that's
4 steelers who have been busted in the past 2 years.

Look at the Bungles: AJ Nicholson, Chris Henry, Odell Thurman, Quincy Wilson, Johnathan Joseph, Frostee Rucker, Eric Steinbach, Matthias Askew, Reggie McNeal, Deltha O'Neal - that's 10 incase you lost count, more than twice what the Steelers have.

And how does Chad Johnson fit on the list? Yeah his personality is "turdish", but he hasn't been busted yet, and that's saying something for the band of misfits that reside in Cincy.

diggler is absolutely right...(and I suppose that makes Florio right, too)...

If Tom Brady busted up Giselle, there's no way he'd be released from the Pats. Conversely, I doubt that Belichick would have any problem at all axing Matt Gutierrez if he did the same thing.

Dirk, it's not a double standard. The Harrison deal could've been the last straw. The team may have been warned a la "if anyone else tries this nonsense, you're gone." Wilson was the next up, so he's gone.

Eduardo, you are a homer. take off the black and gold sunglasses. this is a classic double standard and florio does have a point.

I am a steelers' fan too, but your argument is totally flawed. Wilson beat his gf, Harrison beat his gf. Harrison will not get cut cause he was team MVP last year and he is a good LB, however he embarrassed the Rooneys. The Steelers are going to try and save face by cutting Wilson and saying "We will not stand for this". well, guess what, they are standing for this cause Harrison is still on the team. Wilson's prior run-in with the law was because his gf fired a gun at him, it had nothing to do with him beating her.

As a steelers' fan, I can only hope that Nate Washington beats his gf sometime in the not-so-distant future.

But it is a lot easier to cut your 4th wideout than your team mvp.
