Carolina Panthers offensive tackle Jordan Gross, the team’s franchise player for 2008, has accepted his one-year tender.
As a result, Gross will earn a fully-guaranteed, one-year salary of $7.455 million.
The Panthers can try to sign Gross to a long-term deal. If they choose to use the franchise tag on him again in 2009, his one-year salary will be at least $8.946 million.
“We’ve tried [in the past] to get a deal done, but we haven’t been able to get it done,” G.M. Marty Hurney said, according to CarolinaGrowl.com. ”So right now he has a one-year deal and we’ll go from there.”
Two interior offensive linemen who were restricted free agents also signed their one-year tenders. Geoff Hangartner will earn $1.47 million in 2008, and Evan Mathis will make $927,000. Their contracts are not guaranteed.

Well since he did not sign a long term deal.. Maybe my speculation about Minnesota’s Bryant McKinnie and a second round draft pick.. For Peppers will happen… Yeah I know its only wishful thinking. But I honestly believe that Carolina Will draft a DE in the first round. I guess we will see.. Everyone has their own draft boards.

The Panthers will trade for some dude who’s about to face felony charges in Miami and hasn’t had his future decided upon by Goodell? Leaves a huge hole in MN’s OL and it’s not like there will be Joe Thomas-type player when they make their 1st rd pick.

I know.. Its the off season and We have months of speculation and dreams. The only ones who know for sure what they are going to do are locked behind closed doors shrouded in secrecy, Sometimes even intentionally feeding out false leads just to keep everyone off balance. . The hole in the O-line would not be as big as you imagine. McKinnie is a great run blocker. But has a tendancy to rock in his stance on pass plays,And sometimes does not get low enough in his stance. Sure he is big..And strong as an ox. But agile he is not. Plus dont forget Zigi Wilfs pledge to clean up the organization. Now as for Carolina getting rid of peppers… Not likely. But I can only Imagine what he could do next to Pat Williams and Kevin Williams.. Those guys are the most formidible Defensive tandem in the league. So yes I know its a pipe dream… but thats we have for a couple of months

StarTrib had something about a McKinnie/draft pick for Peppers swap the other day. Not sure how the salaries match up, but it is an intriguing trade. It would give the Vikings probably the most talented starting defensive line like cliff suggested.
