The bad news for former NFL defensive back Troy Vincent is that he’s no longer the president of the NFL Players Association. The good news is that he’s in line to take the thing over.
Per Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Vincent will be the Assistant Executive Director of the NFLPA, which is one step behind long-time Executive Director Gene Upshaw.
Vincent replaces Doug Allen, who became the National Executive Director of the Screen Actors Guild earlier this year. In time, Vincent might replace Upshaw.
Cole also reports that Vincent expects Titans center Kevin Mawae to become the next president of the NFLPA. Cole says that Mawae and Colts center Jeff Saturday are regarded as the frontrunners. We’ve also heard the tight end Ernie Conwell is interested. But Conwell didn’t play in 2007, so his eligibility might be an issue.

With Tank Johnson’s experience as “barn boss”, I’d think he would be a natural to lead the players association.

I don’t understand how Conwell’s eligibility could be in question given Troy Vincent’s office holding the last two years.

Hold on Dwight Schrute, is Vincent the Assistant Executive Director of the NFLPA, or the Assistant TO THE Executive Director of the NFLPA?
