Veteran NFL quarterback Gus Frerotte, released by the St. Louis Rams last month, is drawing interest from a division in which he has plenty of prior experience.
Frerotte visited the Green Bay Packers on Tuesday, and is scheduled to visit the Minnesota Vikings.
He previously has played for the Lions and the Vikings.
It might be easier to list the NFL teams for which the 14-year veteran hasn’t played, but Frerotte doesn’t have much (if any) experience in the West Coast offense, which both the Packers nad the Vikings currently run. When Frerotte was last in Minnesota, the team was running a different offense.
In both places, he’d be the backup. But given the durability (or lack thereof) of Packers starter Aaron Rodgers and the development (or lack thereof) of Vikings starter Tarvaris Jackson, Frerotte probably would end up on the field at some point in either city.

He has a better shot of playing in Minny. Plus he might screw up the Lambeau Leap by running his head into the wall.

He’d be a great pickup for us, I’d take him over Bollinger any day. He could actually come in and play a bit if needed.

Frerotte does have 2 years under Coach Kevlar in the late 90s. Given his shoulder injury, he’ll probably have to stay in the WC system the rest of his career; he might not have the arm strength otherwise.

Frerotte would be an ok back up… But how would the Vikings organization benefit from bringing him in.. What does he bring to the table that justify signing him? He’s old, not used to the west coast offence, and he was never that good anyways. If we wanted fossils hanging around the locker room we would never have let holcomb leave. If you are looking for experience in mentoring bring in Trent Green as a Backup.. He was an alright QB between concussions. And if you want someone to compete for a starting possition trade buffalo for Losman or Texas for Rosenfels… Frerotte really in my mind does not have a place on the Vikings Maybe third string at best.. Even then that is a spot for developing young QB’s Oh and frerotte has too small of hands.

He’s got a great chance to start at either place. I’ll believe in Rodgers when he’s had a start or two.
