In response to a suggestion on Jaguars.com that LSU defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey had knee surgery, Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that Dorsey didn’t.
Citing two unnamed sources, Schefter says that the surgery didn’t happen.
That’s contrary to a notion floated on Monday by Vic Ketchman of Jaguars.com. “The risk with Dorsey is a mysterious knee injury,” Ketchman wrote. “Dorsey hasn’t run for the scouts and there’s suspicion that he’s undergone knee surgery.”
Though Ketchman presumably isn’t taking his marching orders from the team that signs his paychecks, it sure is tempting for us to think that Ketchman’s arguably defamatory comment was part of a plan to grease a first-round free fall for Dorsey, so that the Jags can then pounce on Dorsey at the bottom of the round, using him to fill the spot vacated via the trade of Marcus Stroud.
We’re not suggesting that Ketchman and team officials conspired to cook up this rumor. But it’s very plausible for us to believe that Ketchman caught wind of this rumor from a member of the coaching staff employed by the organization that employs Ketchman.
Lost in all of this is the reality that Dorsey reportedly has a leg problem of the same general type that caused defensive tackle Alan Branch to plunge on draft day in 2007. But Dorsey played all of last year with a stress fracture supposedly in his leg, and other injuries.

And if you start the comparison between Branch and Dorsey, you have to at least mention Branch’s rookie season in Arizona.
11 games played - 9 tackles, 0 sacks
Can’t imagine that Dorsey would put up the same numbers, but Branch was also considered a top draft pick until the severity of his injury was revealed.

It’s obvious someone is running a classic Disinformation Campaign, a term used in the cloak-and-dagger world of Spy vs. Spy.

Vic wouldn’t knowingly participate in disinformation - he’s a pretty straight shooter.

One thing about the Branch/Dorsey comparison that people forget is that in addition to the leg injury issue, there were questions about Branch having an inconsistent motor. That had as much (if not more) to do with his fall to the second round as injury concerns. I don’t recall hearing any concerns about Dorsey with regard to character or his effort on the field. He won’t fall very far.

I also heard that Dorsey’s middle name is Hussein, so there’s always the possibility of him teaming up with a certain former Illinois senator to carry out an elaborate bamboozlement plan.
Plus, monsters.

Yeah, nobody said anything about the knee at the combine, everyone was concerned about the stress fracture.
