As the Jets open their offseason conditioning sessions, they’ll do so with yet another new player in their presence.
Tight end Bubba Franks has joined the party.
Per Rich Cimini of the New York Daily News, Franks gets a one-year, $1.65 million contract.
Franks lost his starting job in Green Bay last season to Donald Lee, and played in only eight games. Franks, a first-round pick in 2000, is a three-time Pro Bowler.

As a Jets fan, I honestly like seeing all the moves being made. I feel as if they finally have that sense of urgency to compete at a high level. It’s just unfortunate that this team is probably not even going to have 8 wins this season, but I think they’re going in the right direction…as long as they don’t sign Ty Law again.

Yeah, it’s really great when a team hires old banged up players and won’t spend the $$$ on the players who CAN play….That Mangina is such a Mangenuis.

Having watched Bubba his whole carrer, I have to wonder at this signing. The last two seasons he’s been sloooooow. He’s now a pass catching TE (not a good run blocker imo) that can’t create separation, that’s why he got beat out by a no-name rookie. Oh yeah, he’s also been injury prone lately.

I’m surprised that Kris Wilson hasn’t gotten more attention - especially over a guy like Franks. He was drafted (03 or 04) as a TE out of Pitt, and KC couldnt get him on the field because of Gonzalez, so they moved him to FB to catch screens out of the backfield. The guy catches anything thrown to him and has good enough blocking skills that he wouldnt be a liability in the running game.
