There are conflicting reports about the trade to send Atlanta Falcons cornerback DeAngelo Hall to the Oakland Raiders.
Over the weekend, the trade was widely reported to be all but signed, sealed and delivered. oday Steve Wyche of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that the trade is nearly final.
But Hall himself denied that the trade was close. And Adam Schefter reported today on NFL Network that the sides are not as optimistic that the deal will get done as they previously were.
“It doesn’t look like, right now, this trade is going to come to be,” Schefter reported today.
The Falcons and Raiders appear to have agreed in principle that the trade will consist of the Raiders sending second- and sixth-round picks to the Falcons, but the Raiders are only interested in consummating the trade if they’ve worked out a contract that will keep Hall happy, and right now no such contract is in place.
If a contract agreement is reached, Hall will be a Raider. If not, this trade isn’t happening.

I imagine it would be the Raiders sending the picks to the Falcons, as opposed to the other way around.
Anyway, good for the Raiders, that’s the way to do it.

I had a feeling this was going to happen. Hall is playing like he is interested to make himself look better, but there is no way he wants to go to Oakland and play for them, especially if he is second fiddle to Asomugha. If the Raiders sign Hall and then cut or trade Asomugha, how are they better off?
If they kept them both, Huff, Asomugha, and Hall would be a terrifying secondary. But Asomugha is clearly the better CB.

Time for Al to step in and throw some more money around in order to get this deal done. However , once he does im sure he’ll be crucified in the media for doing so. . . . .

Hall needs to figure out quickly that his market value isn’t as high as his perceived value. Teams aren’t going to be banging down his door, and he should take the first good offer that comes along, even if it’s from the Raiders. Otherwise, he is going to be back in Atlanta at his current contract amount.

Other than run a 40 in 4.3, what does Hall do that makes him think he’s worth $10 million per season?
Does the guy tackle like Nasty Nate, or ball hawk like Asante?
Hall isn’t even “lockdown”, and should play for the Raiders at $6.5 million a pop. He and Asomugha would definitely be a lethal pairing… dare I say better than Al Harris and Charles Woodson?

C’mon, Hall isn’t worth $10 million per year, but neither were Clements or Samuels… Hall is clearly better than Clements, and I feel confident saying that as a fan of the Falcons and the Bills.
The other issue here, and not reported here, is the report that the Raiders are currently $19 million over the cap.

DeAngelo is only an above average CB, and not the dominant, shutdown one he fancies himself. And not only that, but he always cracks under pressure, and I’m not referring to the infamous Carolina game from this past year.
In a 2006 game against Dallas, Terrell Owens burned DeAngelo for two scores in the first half, which rattled him, and ultimately led to the “spitting incident” which was merely T.O. reacting, albeit unprofessionally, to Hall’s jawing and petty shoving.
There was also another incident in a 2006 game against the Saints when Drew Brees threw up a Hail Mary as time expired at the end of the 1st half, and Hall, rather than batting down the ball, wanted to pad his stats and try for an interception. Of course, he misplayed the ball and the Saints scored a TD.
And one more: last year, there was a game in which Jimmy Williams of the Falcons had a clear path to an interception, and indeed nabbed it, but Hall was close by, at a different angle, but tried to wrest the ball away. Fortunately, Jimmy was too strong and got it.
Bottom line: DeAngelo is an overhyped bum who can’t step up to the plate when it matters most. Good riddance if this trade consummates.

I hope to God that this deal gets done. The Steve Smith freakout/Vick poster incidents were enough to sell me on getting MeAngelo off the team. I just hope Dimitroff gets good value out of those three second-round picks.

DeAngelo Hall is overrated, a team cancer, and will be overpaid once he gets a new deal. He’s going to fit in nicely in Oakland.

He’ll fit in better in Oaktown than that town that’s never won a thing, Atlanta.

What an idiot. Hall’s gotten virtually everything he wanted but now wants to trip over pennies on the way to dollars.
