The Philadelphia Eagles formally have announced the acquisition of Dan Klecko, a former defensive lineman who’ll play fullback on a full-time basis in Philly.
He has played a little fullback in the past, catching a touchdown pass for the Colts in the 2006 AFC title game.
Klecko has signed a two-year deal. After being named the Big East player of the year in 2002, Klecko spent three seasons with the Patriots and two with the Colts. He has been a part of three Super Bowl championship teams.

Wohoo! Eagles signed a 275 pound fullback. He should bring some more physicality to the position than Thomas “two hand touch” Tapeh.

Good to see the Eagles using that cap money to improve the horrendous receiving corps (sarcasm off)

Klecko’s position on the roster could more accurately be described as “good luck charm”

so klecko will be playing fullback fulltime for the birds… does that mean that he will be the eagles full time fullback?? does that make sense? Does andy reid really think he is so much smarter than the rest of the league that he can go into the season without a backup plan? Howd that work out last year when he thought he could convert greg lewis into a punt returner??

They also have Jason Davis who was IRed last year in training camp. Many Eagle fans wanted Davis to beat out Tapeh last year, but the injury made the competition a little one sided. Besides, for the amount of time the Eagles spend in 3WR or double tight end packages his role will be just to block and play special teams. He still has some work ahead of him if he wants to make the team.

He may be the Eagles #1 WR.

Jason Davis is also still in the mix at FB, he’s the guy Reid was banking on when Tapeh left.
As for WR, they went after the only true #1 available in Free Agency, and he stayed in NE. Hate to give the front office too much credit, but they’ve made attempts to get better at WR, and will hopefully continue to pursue their options via trade.

So it’s come to this. Nick Cole as a short yardage back and klecko as his fullback. We’re nearing the answer to the question “just how many lineman can Andy Reid play at once?”.

the only reason to sign a 275 lb fullback is for a power running game. and long ago we gave up all hope of seeing a power running game because it simply is unnecessary and we’re stupid for even daring to think it’s a good idea. so the result of this signing is a 275 lb paperweight simply to hold the bench down on a windy day since he’s rarely actually going to see the field. here’s an idea, since we pass so much let’s sink the money anywhere else instead of the guys who actually catch a football for a living, since apparently any idiot can be good at it and again we’re all stupid for daring to think otherwise. i hate andy. i’d like to enjoy his kidneys with some fava beans and a nice chianti

All you guys who say the Eagles failed at getting a #1 WR… who exactly do you think they should get? They tried to get Randy Moss, offered him more money than NE and he stayed in NE. They tried to get Larry Fitzgerald and the Cards wouldn’t trade him. They tried to get Roy Williams, and the Lions wouldn’t trade him. There are no other top flight WR’s out there, save for maybe Chad Johnson, that are looking for a new team right now. Darrell Jackson? DJ Hackett? Seriously? They are #2’s at best and if the Eagles would sign them, the same people would blast them for taking someone else’s #2 to be their #1.

The whole punting team Greg Lewis/Jeremy Bloom fiasco was not Reid’s fault. He let the rookie Special Teams Coach make the calls and obviously that guy messed up. Almost cost him his job.
Fullbacks don’t really have an impact for this team, so my comment is … snore.

to the folks who say who is out there as a wr that the eagles shoud get, i say, you don’t get it. the eagles extended offers to both moss and fitzgerald, but afterward cowered in the corner with fingers crossed saying please don’t accept please don’t accept.
that’s the truth of banner/lurie/reid.
the eagles didn’t make strong truthful runs toward those guys; they made offers for p.r. hoping neither of them would in fact accept.
