is everyone, who hates this move, aware that Jones tore his ACL toward the end of last year? a Lis franc sprain and a torn ACL. He would definitely start the season on the PUP list again and would be lucky to have any speed in 2009. He will be a non-factor in 2008

The Lions will miss Kevin Jones if they don't draft a RB and have Tatum Bell running the ball 25 times per game. Keep an eye on Calhoun...he may be shown the door soon too. He's been in the league 2 years and has been on the DL both of them.

With two picks in Round 3 look for the Lions to use one as a trade chip to move up or to draft somebody like Ray Rice.

Marinelli is absolutely right with his statement - Eliminating Kalimba and Jones eliminates some uncertainty in their roster... now they cant hide behind Jones pretending he will be healthy and effective like he was the last 8 games of his rookie year, and they cant pretend they will find a pass rush when the light goes on for kalimba. This is Rod's way of forcing Millen to draft to fit the team, not draft for the so-called best player available.

On another note, Florio, I love you, but your comment that this hurts detroit's ability to draft a RB because other teams will see it coming is way off base. Kevin Smith, Chris Johnson, Ray Rice, Tashard Choice, Xavier Omon - all these guys will be effective starters in the NFL, and all will be available some time between rounds 2-5. Hell, if the starter for Detroit is only going to get 15 carries a game, then why not take Mike Hart in round 3? His leadership would go a long way toward trying to fix Detroit.

Maybe the Lions wanted to make the press with rest of the NFC North. No Favre in Green Bay means No QB and RB (not sold on Rodgers or Grant yet) the Bears have no QB, no RB, and no WRs. The Vikings have no QB and no Wrs. Now the Lions arguably have no QB (Kitna isn't that good) and no RB.

Is the NFC North possibly the worst offensive division in football?

I was thinking the same thing as DCFanatic. If Dallas could pair Kevin Jones with Barber III, that could make a very nice duo. Jones wouldn't have to do the heavy carrying and he could become the back that many thought he could be, albeit on a part-time basis while sharing the load with Barber.

As for the Lions Fans out there... Beer. Lots and lots of beer.

If I am Jerry Jones I give him a call ASAP and see what he is looking for on a one, two year deal.

He's worth a look see because when he's healthy, which is not very often in his short NFL career, he's an above average RB for sure.

In the words of "some internet hack," "HO-LEE-CRAP."

All I can do is shake my head. I am a life-long Lions fan and my jaw hit the floor when I read this rumor, then went to the Lion's official site, only to have the rumor confirmed.

This is a new low...even for the Lion's.

"Tatum Bell, Aveion Cason and Brian Calhoun. Matt Millen is GM of the Decade."

This, ladies and gentlemen, is why the Lions are the perennial NFL loser. Terrible decision making all around, and it all starts with the worst owner in sports--William Clay Ford.

Matt Millen should be arrested for shear stupidity, and the owner should fold the team and move out of Detroit. That team is cursed as it is, and on top of it they have a stiff like Millen pulling the strings. What a joke of a franchise. I can't believe the NFL and TV networks let the Lions play every Thanksgiving Day game. I'd rather watch a 5 year olds play T-Ball for 4 hours than to watch the Lions.

One would have thought that with Martz gone they would have remembered they actually NEED a running game. And Jones, when healthy, always played well for them. That's a shock, to me, but then as said, one can't expect team-beneficial decisions out of Detriot. It's too bad, because I kinda like them.
