Seahawks receiver D.J. Hackett visited the Redskins, got an offer, and didn’t accept it.
According to the Washington Times, Hackett will explore other options before making a decision.
“This will all be up to him,” coach Jim Zorn told David Elfin of the Washington Times. ”We’re not going to risk it all to try to pay him. The financial package has to work. But if we have a chance to get him, we’d like to have him. He’s got two other teams plus Seattle that wants to match [his contract offers].”
It’s a dramatic change in approach by the Redskins to free agency. In the past, the ‘Skins would close the deal quickly and decisively, usually by overpaying via a multi-year contract that was destined to be terminated in a couple of years.
Indeed, Hackett was the first free-agent that the ‘Skins hosted this year. They previously have re-signed two of their own free agents — quarterback Todd Collins and running back Rock Cartwright . . . Cartwright!
Hackett will visit the Panthers and the Buccaneers. The Seahawks also have an interest in bringing him back.

Good for you, Redskins fans. About time Snyder realized he was flushing perfectly good money and draft picks down the drain. Ya know, the Raiders are looking more and more like the Redskins West as Al continues his jog down Senility Path. Then again, the Jets are certainly doing all they can to buy a Lombardi.

wow dont know how i had overlooked the whole jim zorn/seahawks/hackett connection. Unless the panthers really rush to do something stupid (and give him a uuge offer) to replace jarrett i still expect him to be going to DC.

It has been refreshingly dull in Redskinland. I have to wonder what is behind this sudden change? Is this Vinnie’s MO or has Dan had an epiphany?

If Hackett is smart, he’ll stay in Seattle. Dan Snyder should stop hanging out with Tom Cruise and start paying attention to his team instead of trying to buy a ring every year. There’s this thing called the draft. Teams normally use it to build there franchises up with young players. Teams also usually hire the head coach before they hire assistant coaches. How much money has this guy blown on overrated free agents. He gave Ranle-El $40million! I would rather play in the Arena Football League than to play for Dan Snyder and the Redskins.
