As a rookie, Panthers receiver Dwayne Jarrett was a bust. And now he’s been busted.
According to the web site of the Mecklenburg County, North Carolina Sheriff’s Office, Jarrett was arrested on Tuesday for driving while impaired.
Widely expected to be a first-rounder out of USC, Jarrett was a second-round pick of the Panthers in 2007. His arrival made Keyshawn Johnson expendable.

How do people keep getting DWI’s in CHarlotte? This is the least patrolled city I have ever lived in. Everyone flies around here, including me at double the speed limit. Of course I do it sober, but still you have to be a real screwup to get pulled over in Charlotte…

How does Pete Carroll skate by with a squeaky clean image with all these problems?

I’m a Vikings fan, and I remember being a bit shocked that we passed on him in the 2nd for Sidney Rice. One year later, Rice showed flashes of brilliance, while Jarrett’s been a flash in the pan, that pan being the overstocked pool of talent in LA’s “pro football team.” Great job, once again, Spielman.

First off, I’d like to disclaim that I am an ND grad and proud of it regardless of our coach’s apparent inFATuation with all kinds of sugar (whether it be in a soda or liquid form smothered on a Krispy Kreme doughnut). With that said to show my clear bias against USC (ie - Reggie Bush’s phat college house, Matt Leinart and Dwayne Jarrett’s rent “arrangement”, and LenWhale White just being a straight thug), I’d like to point out one thing on Jarrett. Your post says that he was expected to be a first round pick but slipped to round two. I remember hearing such a big deal at how big and strong he was and that that would make up for his lack of top end speed (4.58 forty I believe?). So I find it funny to see that his arrest photo shows his stats as 6′4″ and 208 lbs. 208 LBS!! That is supposed to be big, strong, and physical? At that weight what the hell is slowing him down? I know posted weights are inaccurate but per ESPN Dwayne Jarrett is 219lbs and Randy Moss is 210lbs. Based on pure production I’d take Steve Smith (NY Giants) way ahead of Jarrett cuz all Jarrett got away with in college was running over small d-backs (like every year against ND). Don’t you think the Panthers wish they’d have taken him instead? A) they would have gotten a much more productive receiver (ask Eli) and B) they would have had to deal with the issue of figuring out how to discern the two Steve Smiths on the back of their jersies. I’d love to see just one team have to go so far as to put the middle names on the jerseys!

And once again, a second or third round pick for the Panthers disappoints. “Dwayne Jarrett, your dinner party with Stefan Lefors, Eric Shelton, Atiyyah Ellison and Keary Colbert will be seated now.”

I wouldn’t give up on Dwayne yet, Braylon Edwards was starting to be considered a bust, it takes WRs about three years to really shine. I am not saying he is Braylon Edwards just giving an example on how some seasoning can really help a guy out in the long run.
