Jim Johnson's scheme from what i understand is to get pressure on the quarterback with front 4 and some exotic blitzes with the LBs. It puts the cornerbacks on an island usually which is why they invested heavily in Asante Samuel. I personally think if they had a playmaker at LB it would make the eagles defense one of the top 3 in the league. Joe Banner and Big Red obviously disagree since outside Trotter the eagles have never had a pro bowl line backer.

He was a heck of a linebacker with a big neck. But they wear down and he was making too much money. Jimmy thinks this is a good move.

Yes the eagles play a 4-3. But they don't put a lot of stock in line backers. Steward Bradley impressed them a lot last year and will probably be the opening day starting middle line backer. They can move Omar Gaither to the outside (his natural position). I don't agree with this move unless its a precursor to a bigger move (perhaps a big time WR). Takeo showed heart and was definitely the eagles best LB last year, he even played hurt. Hey maybe this means that Fitzgerald and his husky contract are close to coming aboard.

@RonInCharlotte: He wasn't making many big plays anymore. Plus he tore a rotator cuff which makes this the 3rd consecutive season with an injury. And his cap number was 5mil. Word is he was offered 2mil and didn't want it.

@svnrdr: Yes the Eagles play a 4-3.

Count me as one hoping this move precedes a big WR move (Fitz? RoyW?)

Spadaro was right, you were wrong about the depth chart.

Anyone that follows all the NFL team sites knows that they are updated by the PR department that doesn't know jack about the team. They are riddled with inconsistency and inaccuracies. The website had no special insight into the situation - he was off the depth chart because he'd been on I.R., and any inconsistencies were simply the result of a lack of attention to the page.

This doesn't prove you right on the subject. Nothing will, because you weren't.

Crazy, though. I always remembered Spikes being an exceptional LB, especially in Cincy. What happened to him? Or is it purely a cap thing? He came oto my house once in I lived in Georgia. He was friend of my old roommate. That guy has a HUGE neck.
