In the 40 minutes or so since we pointed out that the Eagles’ current depth chart doesn’t include Takeo Spikes, the veteran linebacker has been reinstated to it.
As one reader explained it, Spikes possibly was omitted because he finished the 2007 season in IR. And in their zeal to install on the depth chart Asante Samuel, who wasn’t even on the roster in 2007, the Eagles apparently overlooked the fact that other players still on the team weren’t listed on the chart.
Of course, it doesn’t mean that Spikes will be on the opening-day roster; the Eagles can realize a $5 million cap savings by dumping him at any time before the eve of the regular-season opener. For now, though, he is still on the squad.
