The Washington Redskins have released wide receiver Brandon Lloyd, the team announced on its web site.

As Gary Fitzgerald accurately writes at Redskins.com, Lloyd’s two-year stint with the Redskins was a major disappointment after the Redskins traded two draft picks to the 49ers to acquire Lloyd and signed him to a new contract with $10 million guaranteed.

For that investment, the Redskins got 23 catches for 365 yards in 2006 and two catches for 14 yards in 2007. He never caught a touchdown pass as a Redskin.

Lloyd was a starter for Week 1 of the 2007 season but was demoted to a reserve role after that. He suffered a season-ending shoulder injury in a November practice.
