Our friends at Pewter Report report (pewter) that Bucs coach Jon Gruden and G.M. Bruce Allen could soon be receiving contract extensions.

Both men are signed through 2008, and would be lame ducks absent new deals.

The extensions reportedly will be at least two years in duration to match the three-year contracts signed by offensive coordinator-offensive line coach Bill Muir, special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia, and receivers coach Richard Mann.

Our guess is that Gruden will want more than two extra years.  Otherwise, why not coach out the last year of the current deal and hit the open market?

Even though the Bucs went from 4-12 in 2006 to 9-7 in 2007, there was a sense of uncertainty surrounding the coaching staff after a playoff loss to the Giants.

But not everything is rosy just yet.  Defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin will be free to leave after January 31, and running backs coach Art Valero recently slammed Gruden on Valero’s way out the door to St. Louis.
