Former Titans offensive coordinator Norm Chow believes that his bolt-from-the-blue termination might have been instigated by quarterback Vince Young.
“[Coach Jeff Fisher] sensed some frustrations on my part with Vince. So maybe it was Vince? I don’t know,” Chow said, according to the Nashville Tennesseean. “I am not too concerned with finding out why. It doesn’t matter.”
Said Young, in a prepared statement issued by the team: “I was shocked and didn’t expect the news that I got today about Coach Chow,” Young said. “I have grown closer and closer to him since coming to the Titans. He was a big part in the development in my first two years and I appreciate all he has done for me. I look forward to working with whoever Coach Fisher hires.”
Several readers have suggested to us that Chow might have been the first victim of a Vick-style excuse-making campaign. In Atlanta, former quarterback Mike Vick’s inability to develop into a passing quarterback was, in our view, consistently blamed on someone other than Vick.
With all that said, we think that Young can become a far better quarterback than Vick ever was. But the team needs to take off the training wheels and encourage him to zing the ball down the field with that rocket-strong force flowing from a simple flick of the wrist.
