In a move that is something of a surprise, the Titans have fired offensive coordinator Norm Chow.

Chow, who was regarded as a genius at USC, apparently is the scapegoat for Vince Young’s unimpressive second season in the league.

In 2006, however, the tutelage of Chow helped lead Young to the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year award.

Look for the Cardinals or the Bengals to explore the possibility of tapping into Chow’s expertise and experience with Matt Leinart or Carson Palmer, both of whom won a Heisman while working with Chow.

UPDATE:  The Titans have issued a statement confirming the move.  “Over the last week, we have done a lot of self-evaluation and I think we still have work ahead of us to reach our ultimate goal.  I have informed Norm that he will not be retained as our offensive coordinator,” Titans head coach Jeff Fisher said.  “I appreciate all of the hard work and contributions he made to the organization during his time here, but I have decided to go in a different direction and will start the process of finding a new offensive coordinator.  We wish Norm and his family the best in their future endeavors.”
