Though former Giants coach Jim Fassel has been getting most of the press, Scout.com’s Warpaint Illustrated reports that the front-runners for the job are Jags quarterbacks coach and former Alabama head coach Mike Shula and former Georgia Tech head coach and former Cowboys head coach Chan Gailey.
Gailey, per WI, has been interviewed twice. Shula interviewed for the gig on Tuesday, and his experience at Alabama with Chiefs quarterback Brodie Croyle are strong selling points. Also, Shula’s role in the development of Jags quarterback David Garrard is a feather in his cap.
Gailey first rose to prominence as receivers coach of a Steelers team that made it to Super Bowl XXX. He then became offensive coordinator in 1997 and 1997, before getting the Cowboys’ head coaching job in 1998.
