2007 DRAFT NEEDS:

SEATTLE SEAHAWKS

With each passing year, Seahawks coach Mike "Big Show" Holmgren is getting another season closer to calling it quits.  So, with each passing draft, it's more important to get help.  Now.

Last year, the Seahawks got an early start on the draft by trading for Patriots receiver Deion Branch.  So they won't have a first-round pick.  So it'll be harder to get much better in 2007.

Fortunately, the team doesn't have many holes.  And if they pull off a trade for receiver Darrell Jackson, they'll likely pick up another pick or two.

Here are the areas on which we think they should focus.

1.  Defensive tackle:  Marcus Tubbs has been a disappointment, and it's unclear whether he'll ever make it all the way back after undergoing microfracture surgery.  They need help at the position.  Badly.

2.  Cornerback:  Depth would be useful, especially since Kelly Herndon's $2.5 million salary for 2007 is a little on the high side.

3.  Safety:  Despite the arrival of Deon Grant and Brian Russell, Ken Hamlin is gone and Michael Boulware was exposed in 2006 as a not-so-great contributor in pass coverage.  Depth is needed.

4.   Tight end:  We like Marcus Pollard, but he's 35.  They desperately need a guy who can help in both the short-term and long-term.  Given Jerramy Stevens' inability to consistently catch patches, anything will be an improvement.

5.  Defensive end:  Patrick Kerney is in, Grant Wistrom is out.  The end result?  One overhyped, overpaid player was replaced with another.  Darryl Tapp and Bryce Fisher need to step up -- and they need someone from deeper on the depth chart to push them all.
