RAVENS DRAFT NEEDS
presented by
by PFT Editor Mike Florio, with Matt Miller
of NewEraScouting.com
The Ravens did surprisingly well in 2006,
posting a 13-3 mark in the first year of the Steve McNair era.
With a full offseason for McNair to better learn the offense, the team
could be even more competitive in 2007.
But the Ravens need to draft well to get
there, especially since the Ravens didn't have the cap space to make
much of a splash in free agency. Here are the areas that should be
targeted:
1. Left tackle: Long-time
starter Jonathan Ogden is year-to-year at best. And the only way
to find a solid left tackle is in the draft, usually in round one.
Since the Ravens draft too low for any of the blue-chippers in 2007
(with the exception of Joe Staley), they might want to wait until 2008.
2. Right tackle: Tony Pashos
split for Jacksonville, and there's not really anyone with any real
experience behind him. This is definitely a need that the Ravens
should address, now.
3. Cornerback: Not long ago,
the Ravens had the best corps of corners in the league. But
they're getting older, and it's time to start developing some
youngsters, who'd benefit from spending time watching Chris McAlister
and Samari Rolle.
4. Guard: Keydrick Vincent has
been a disappointment since arriving from the Steelers. Help is
needed.
5. Outside linebacker: The
departure of Adalius Thomas creates a clear need. Dan Cody could
be the guy to replace him, but his development has been slowed by
injuries.
